The Reason the DNC is Hiding their 2024 Election Autopsy: The Inside Story.

The action by the Democratic National Committee to suppress the publication of its own post-election analysis concerning the 2024 election is shocking however to be expected. Opposed to unpleasant candor, the Democrats' governing body operates closer to a publicity machine than an electoral entity devoted to cultivating a volunteer base for winning elections.

A Culture Resistant to Internal Critique

Reluctant to break with the prevailing attitude of conformity, the DNC has remained within that legacy throughout this past year. Releasing such a report might have shown that the leadership actually want to foster open debate regarding the strategic failures which allowed the former president to win re-election. Instead, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there is little to glean following the stunning loss of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? Should the answer be negative, it becomes a sideline issue from what truly matters," a rationale which was presented for withholding the report.

Key Issues an Autopsy Could Have Examined

A genuine analysis worth its salt would not dodge key points of failure. This encompasses:

  • Voter Disenchantment: Failing to retain of millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 became a critical factor in the narrowly decided recent race.
  • The Decision to Run: The determined choice by the incumbent to seek re-election, coupled with a very late exit, is viewed as robbing Democratic voters the chance for a genuine choice.
  • Losing Touch With the Working-Class Base: Amid rising costs, the electoral effort allegedly bowing to corporate donors' interests while failing to confront the impact of corporate greed.
  • A Gaza Effect: The refusal to shift an approach on the situation in Gaza reportedly led to alienating key demographic groups, notably with youth voters, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Youth Support: Research shows a huge decline in support for the party among young voters.

A Record of Evasion

The decision to withhold aligns with a longstanding habit of evading hard truths. It recalls a dynamic in which virtually every Democratic officeholder in Congress went along with an incumbent's insistence on seeking another term until a disastrous televised debate compelled a reversal.

Concurrently, large majorities of the electorate were consistently telling pollsters that they opposed the incumbent to seek re-election.

Financial Issues

A thorough autopsy could examine questions regarding where money went, such as what sums went to high-priced advisors and advertising contractors over the course of an electoral effort that managed to spend a staggering amount during the general election.

The Larger Implication

Ultimately, the secrecy regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a submission toward party leaders responsible for a losing presidential campaign. The implication for rank-and-file members – which includes countless dedicated activists – appears to be that they cannot have a right to understand what party chiefs claim to have learned from hundreds of interviews drawing from conversations with insiders.

An organization incapable to honestly assess its mistakes finds it difficult to break free from the rut which was so helpful to the rival party.
