19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard surface from spring of that year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first tour championship, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent defended four early chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
